My Work Featured in a New Book
Some of my recent work has been included in the new book, Device, Volume 2 - Reconstructed. The book is a collection of 16 international artists who produce work using found objects. These artists - brought together by the Device Gallery in San Diego - reconfigure, repurpose and reconstruct these objects into many incredible works of art. I am honored to be included in this wonderful group. It's currently available at www.devicegallery.com (click on Store) for $24 (plus $6.00 for shipping within the U.S.) It's also available at Amazon.com.
Newest Commission
My latest commission was a for a client in LA and is a step in a new direction for my work. Instead of hiding all the mechanisms inside I am putting them upfront and center, so to speak. The piece features a figure cranking a giant mechanical contraption comprised of many pulleys and belts. See a movie of it on YouTube!
My Work at Obsolete
I am pleased to announce that Obsolete, an incredible store/gallery in Venice, CA is now carrying my work. I've been a fan of this store for years and love their wonderful aesthetic. Their collections include artist mannequins from the 17th through 19th centuries, santos figures, scientific instruments, taxidermy and unique antique furniture. This eclectic shop is considered one the top 3 destinations in the Los Angeles area for unique items, and is a perfect setting for my recent work. Stop by in person or visit their website to experience this unique treasure.
Photo Essay By Gregory Campbell
I'm honored to have had Atlanta photographer, Gregory Campbell, shoot a photo essay about me and my recent work. To get a glimpse of my studio and how I approach my work, go to --- www.gcphoto.com, click on Stories and scroll thru the images. Gregory is a master of lighting and composition, having worked for years in the Los Angeles film industry on a variety of projects.
Featured in Book, Detour Art
I've been included in a new book,
Detour Art: Outsider, Folk Art, and
Visionary Environments Coast to Coast published by Kansas City Star Books.
It is by designer, photographer, and art aficionado, Kelly Ludwig and
features the two pieces of mine in her collection.
Featured on PBS: Rare Visions & Roadside Revelations
I was been featured on the show "Rare Visions & Roadside Revelations" in the episode "Peaches, Beaches, Gators & Grits". My segment is about 5-6 minutes long. (At the end of the DVD, there's another 5 minutes of me rambling on about my work.)
This is a great series and runs on PBS stations.
If you haven't seen it, these guys have been traversing the country
since 1995 to find offbeat sites, amazing artists, and odd roadside attractions.
(You'll probably will want to check with your local station
to see if they carry it. If not tell them they should!)
For more instant gratification you can go here and order said DVD for your home viewing pleasure. For more info on Rare Visions & Roadside Revelations go to their website -
